Stratford-upon-Avon Visit

In light of a recent trip (and as my last post was rather text heavy!) I thought I would share four of my favourite things that I discovered in Stratford-Upon-Avon and the surrounding area.

One

Food is definitely one of the most important things in life so let's start on that! Two of my favourites included amazing chips from a place on the main square near the big RSC building and pink grapefruit sorbet from Hooray's (just off the main square).

So, and rather obviously, I couldn’t really do a list of my favourite things without mentioning all the Shakespeare related stuff as it is Stratford-upon-Avon after all. Practically everything claims some connection to Shakespeare to get the tourists through its doors but my favourites were the birth and resting place of Shakespeare as well as the RSC (very original I know). It’s also worth knowing that in the summer months there are free outdoor productions behind the RSC building.

If you become fed up with the Shakespeare overload, it’s only a short journey to neighbouring Warwick. This place has its own attractions including that whopping great castle that I got lost finding. Whilst lost trying to find the castle I stumbled upon a back street with a small gallery (I literally walked into the sign). Called the Roof Top Gallery, it was a small but brightly lit studio up a spiral staircase. It was such a thrill to discover and lovely to chat to the two artists who worked and exhibited there. It just goes to show there are so many things waiting to be discovered off the beaten track.

Four

Back to Stratford now, but still of the beaten track, it’s easy to find more peaceful but equally beautiful places away from the tourists at main square. Yeah, I think if anyone lived near a place like that they’d be inspired to write sonnets…
